Damien stood slowly and crossed to the railing, leaning against it, staring into the woods.
“You can rest now,” he said without looking at her. “You don’t need to keep fighting every minute. You’re safe here. For as long as you need.”
Her throat tightened. “And what if Margaret disagrees?”
He finally turned, and the moonlight made his eyes look almost gold.
“I am the Alpha,” he said. “Even she will fall in line.”
His voice was low but absolute. There was no room for argument.
Ryleigh stood, unsure what she was doing, but compelled by some invisible pull. She walked to the railing beside him, close enough to feel the heat of his body.
