Part 49. Afternoon, the sun was shining brightly. Joe glanced briefly at Clara, who seemed engrossed in reading a translated novel by William Shakespeare. "Clara," Uncle Joe called. "Yes," Clara carefully folded her book and closed it. Then, she walked over to Uncle Joe, who was sitting in his armchair. Clara stood beside Joe, looking at the laptop screen he showed her. "Which one do you prefer, this one or this one?" Joe asked, pointing to two options of a pink and a purple teddy bear.

BLAKE’S POV There was something wrong. The way she moved. The way she spoke. Even the way she looked! But most importantly, the way she held the clay. Clara was angry, everyone could tell that, but what was surprising was how she held the clay in her hands that she was using to demonstrate how to burnish after molding. The sides of the almost hardened clay were beginning to crack from the pressure her palms exerted on them. All of us were deathly quiet probably to know if we could hear the bowl crack, but mostly so our heads wouldn’t be next in line.

The afternoon passed in an uneasy rhythm. Clara tried to stay in the guest wing, telling herself it was safer to put space between her and them. But the truth was she could not keep her mind from replaying the library — the slow circling, the way each of them had taken a piece of her composure, the quiet satisfaction in their eyes when she had made it to the end of their challenge but not without reaction. She worked her way through a book she could not remember reading. She took a bath in the enormous claw-foot tub, the heat easing the tension in her muscles but not in her thoughts. By the time evening fell, the restlessness was unbearable.

They weren't the best of friends but her honesty had her hooked. She passed a bookstore that Clara loved. Its lights were still on, warm in the night. She stopped, stared at the window. Inside was a book Clara had once given her. Its spine glinted softly, like a whisper. “For truth,” Clara had said when she gave it. “And for the days you forget who you are.” Serena didn’t go inside. She just stared. She never really realized how much time she h ad spent with Clara until she was gone. Because tonight, she hadn’t forgotten who she was.

The girl was not responding to any questions and Magnus was losing patience. "Give her some money for her help with Penny and let her go after whatever treatment she needs. I'll pay the medical bill" says Magnus to the doctor not wanting to do anything with her or any problem she was in, which she clearly was in. Magnus tried to look beyond her bruises and couldn't deny she would have been a beautiful girl once but now, she looked like a baten up, used doll which was thrown out after playing with it. And for Magnus. He didn't like used things .

And the pay was kinda okay. Clara no longer bothers with the situation on how she will find food and shelter for herself as she sleeps in the hotel after closing then eats some of the leftover food which customers request her to Trash away. She couldn't go back to Jane, her best friend or Donovan Because she knew that history will definitely repeat itself, and she doesn't want such a thing to happen.

CHAPTER 134 Clara’s POV The afternoon sun hung high in the sky as I stepped out of the bookstore carrying two new books pressed against my chest. One was about corporate governance. The other was about shareholder litigation. A few weeks ago, I wouldn’t have even understood the titles. Now I was spending my free time reading them voluntarily. The realization almost made me laugh. If someone had told me six months ago that I would willingly spend hours studying business law, I would have assumed they were insane.

She looked up to find Alaina waiting for her to speak up with a slight smile. "Oh! I forgot." That girl said as she pressed her palm with her forehead. Alaina found that gesture a sweet one. She was cute. "I am Clara. I wanted a book Nectar of Pain." She at last told her demand as Alaina gave her that book and made her library card with Clara's constant staring. Alaina didn't know why she was staring at her like that with her big blue eyes. Alaina's eyes were too blue but with a little shade of grey making her enticingly beautiful. Alaina handed her the book as she was getting confused with her constant staring.

Anderson said, shaking the chief’s hand. “Yes, I’m counting on you.” Said the man firmly and left the place. --------------------------------- Clara put off her apron with a long sigh. Finally, her shift was over and it’s almost 5 A.M. The bar was already closed and she just finished her clean-up. Putting on her brown overcoat she yawned for the lack of sleep and tiredness. She exited by the back door of the bar and began to walk to her destination, her sister’s house. She was walking without any care in the world by the gloomy, quiet road. It was still very early so there wasn’t any soul outside yet. The world is still sleeping and she feels like she’s the only human in the whole world now.
