“You can’t escape!”
“Don’t speak,” Courtney said calmly. “I can hear your breathing. Stay still. Breathe. Focus on me.”
I obeyed. Inhale. Hold. Exhale. Slowly. My body followed his lead, steadying despite the ache in my throat.
“Go to the main entrance,” he continued. “I’m coming. Count to five. Then run. Now.”
I didn’t hesitate.
