While Alpha Sloan, his brother and Madison engaged my mother in a quiet, assessing, and seemingly exciting conversation, Colter stood slightly apart, his gaze fixed on me.
“Hi,” he finally greeted me.
“Good evening, Colter.” I sighed. "You didn't have to come," I said, my voice low, a mix of gratitude and lingering resentment.
