Niamh had her own plan. To eliminate suspicion, she had planted tiny flying insects inside the helmets of four or five of the worst-performing racers in history. During the race, the bugs would crawl into their hair, skitter across their scalps, and eventually make their way to their eyes and faces. The moment the insects made contact, the affected racers would be thrown off their game. With that distraction, her own ranking would improve. Of course, she had also planted some in Luna's helmet out of spite. If Luna screwed up in this race, then the so-called "Eucon's No.1 Female Racer" would be forever humiliated.

13 - Ruby Fridays — ۩ Racers, you have reached the final mission of your game - Midday Mile. This racetrack is full of danger and deception, with death awaiting at every turn. The Midday Mile racetrack awaits the final challenge for the eight racers competing for freedom. The racers have been provided identical high-performance racing cars for the ultimate test of speed and endurance. The track is one mile long and divided into six laps. Each lap contains different obstacles designed to slow and fail racers down to doom. If you wish to escape this arena of doom, you must cross the finish line first and claim the missing piece of the map that will show you the exit.

Someone appeared in the doorway. It was Nate. He had one hand pressed to his stomach like he had been laughing all the way down the hall. Kylan and I pulled away from each other and both shot him a questioning look at the same time. “I just got the worst news,” Nate said, catching his breath. “We are screwed.” “Huh?” I lifted a single brow. “Cassian just told me that Rochwall told him that the first part of the race is going to be run on two legs,” he informed us. “The second half is for the wolves.”

However, as always, there was a twist: we needed to eliminate or delay our competitors because there was only room for one winner. I ran as if my life depended on it, and indeed it did. My proximity to Conan was at stake, and I was willing to do anything to maintain it. I took the lead in the race, casting furtive glances over my shoulder to watch the other competitors. Some of them were biting and sabotaging each other in their eagerness to claim victory. The enormous wolf that had threatened me before lunged in my direction and leaped over my head, striking my face with a powerful paw that nearly knocked me senseless.

Bang! The starting gun fired. Elio's modified Maserati shot off the line like an uncaged black beast. He barely slowed for the corners, its tires screaming against the pavement in a shrill cry that pierced the entire tunnel. His driving was just as I remembered from when he'd pursued me: wild and commanding, every overtake a gamble with death itself. On the final lap, the car nearly went airborne as it tore across the finish line in first place. The underground racetrack erupted in a deafening roar of shouts and whistles.

“I don’t work with lycans.” Derek chuckled darkly. “That’s cute.” He gestured toward the bodies on the ground. “But you’ve been working with them all night. Just in a more… permanent way.” Conan’s jaw clenched. This was a mistake. He didn’t need allies. He didn’t need help. But one thing he knew was that he needed to get to Cove. And this wolf might be the fastest way to do it. “Temporary,” Conan said at last. “You help me kill Cove, and when this is over, we go our separate ways.”
