As we settled at the counter, I greeted the man who was busy with the coffee machine. His name is Conrad, one of the baristas, he looked at us and shooked his head. “Roland is looking for you, Cameron.” “Why?” my heart keeps on pounding so fast. Damn! I hope he won’t fire me, and I’ll go crazy if that happened.

CHAPTER FOUR: The night had been nothing short of a fever dream for Zeke. He found himself standing in a 24-hour convenience store at 2:00 AM, staring intensely at a wall of feminine hygiene products like he was trying to solve a complex merger. He was the CEO of a multi-million dollar company, yet he felt his face heat up as he grabbed a pack of pads and a heating bag. Alfred answered. Conrad pushes the trolley and goes into his room. He was amazed to see that his room is perfect for him. A white room with perfect lighting, a soft bed, a study table by the window, a built-in closet, and his own bathroom. It’s everything he expected it would be. Alfred knocks on the frame and asks if he needs anything. Conrad replies that he’s good and will start unpacking his stuff. Alfred leaves and gives his time to unpack as he went back to the living room. Conrad suddenly realizes that Alfred has a different accent. For him, he thinks as if he heard that accent before, but he can’t just remember.

Wrapped in an old coat, Conrad sat alone in the damp basement apartment. The room was dark. Only a nearly burned-out candle on the coffee table cast a faint glow. Beside it sat a shriveled roasted sweet potato. He had stood in line for two hours that day to buy it from a street vendor. "Happy New Year, Seraphina." He spoke softly to the empty room. Picking up the cold sweet potato, he peeled away the charred skin and took a large bite. The rough fibers scraped against his throat. A familiar spasm twisted through his stomach.

The man laughed and nodded. “My apologies then.” He said and stared at Alex. “Hmm. There is something odd though. I know it's been a few years since I saw Sidorov and I wasn't really close to him but I can recall, he was looking more like a Russian and you are looking nothing close to that.” He said. “Fedorov, your greedy and selfish act is messing up the chain and causing chaos among everyone, you aren't following the code of conduct.” Alex said and the man’s eyes widened, he hurriedly replaced it with a smirk but it was obvious he was surprised

I closed my laptop before I walk out of my room, I look at Janine and Shia who are eating their chips while they are watching. “Oh, hi!” Janine greeted me when she noticed me. “You didn’t tell me that you’re going here,” I say, I sit beside her. “Is it required?” she asks, I laugh, “I’m watching with my friend, I don’t want to talk to anyone,” she added before she look at the TV again.
