“Oh, I’m pushing. Just… gently.”
I laughed, really laughed this time.
After a while, Diane stood and stretched. “Okay. Emotional bonding complete. I’m starving.”
“Of course you are.”
“Come on,” she said, grabbing my hand and pulling me up. “Let’s get something sweet. Sugar fixes at least half of life’s problems.”
We walked to the fridge, rummaging. Diane chose enthusiastically, adding extra toppings like it was a competition. I watched her with fond amusement.
“You’re staring again,” she said.
