Jonathan staggered half a step back, his eyes wide—not just from the pain, but from wounded pride.
“Never ask me something that disgusting again,” Emma’s voice trembled, her chest rising and falling. “You’ve already lost the right to control my life.”
Tears pooled in her eyes, but Emma held them back. She refused to look weak.
“Leave,” she said firmly. “Or I will.”
Jonathan stared at her for a long moment. Anger, hurt, and loss mixed in his eyes. Then his gaze shifted—toward the second-floor balcony.
