“Nira!” I shouted, sprinting forward, senses honed to a razor’s edge.
The shadow’s clawed arm slammed down just inches from her. I intercepted with my blade, feeling it shudder violently against the creature’s energy. I shoved with every ounce of strength, rolling it to the side, and dragged her back to safety. She gasped, eyes wide with terror. “Th-thank you, Corin!”
No time to breathe. The creatures kept coming. Shadows that weren’t entirely stable, shifting shapes, the occasional glimpse of humanoid forms twisted by red energy. Their presence was corrupting the ground beneath our feet, burning grass into ash and twisting the trees with unnatural angles.
