In the mirror, her reflection’s shadow, cast on the stone wall behind her by the light of a single candle, did something impossible. As she clenched her fist, the shadow’s hand didn’t just mimic the motion.
The shadowed fingers elongated, stretching into thin, wicked looking talons of pure darkness, like the claws of some nightmare bird. They writhed for a split second, sharp and predatory, before shrinking back, solidifying into the shape of a normal, clenched fist.
