Chapter 25 – Ashes in the Snow The courtyard reeked of iron and smoke. Blood blackened the snow in great swathes, trampled into mud beneath the chaos of bodies. The clash of steel had ended, but the silence that followed was worse—raw, ragged, carrying the weight of every cry that would never rise again.

"Let's go in," Jim mumbled as they were led into the castle. The castle before them was grander than they could have ever imagined. It screamed money and luxury, perfectly compatible with the character of Ace in their memories. A life of power and status. Jim felt inferior. He looked toward the young man beside him. "Brewster, are you fine?" Instead, he wanted to ask if Brewster would like to return home. GRACE’S POV I narrowed my eyes slightly at him, leaning back in my chair. “You’re weird, I hope you know.” He smiled, almost like he took that as a compliment. “You’re just now realizing that?” “No,” I replied dryly. “I’ve known. I’m just now confirming.” He chuckled, resting his elbows on the table. Then, he wriggled his eyebrows at me. The floor, polished to a mirror-like sheen, reflected the light of the torches lining the walls. At the far end, Asher sat on a large oak throne carved with designs of wolves and the moon. He wasn’t lounging as some rulers might; he sat upright, focused on what looked like a journal or perhaps financial records spread across a small desk before him.
