Their hoods concealed their faces, but the mark stitched in silver on their sleeves gave them away instantly: emissaries of the supernatural court.
“Too soon,” Lucian hissed, drawing his blade.
Selene lifted her staff, runes glowing faintly. “They’ve come for her already.”
The two emissaries stepped forward, their movements fluid, inhumanly precise. One lowered his hood to reveal pale skin and eyes that glimmered with unnatural light. His voice was smooth, carrying across the room like a poisonous whisper.
“Mia Jones,” he said. “By order of the High Court, you are summoned to stand judgment for your defiance. Come willingly, and you may yet live.”
