I climbed into my car brought to the front of the building by my side and sped off. As the traffic light ahead changed from red to green, I stepped on the brake but the car refused to stop. Trembling with fear, I continued to step down on the faulty brake. A loud horn blared as a truck bore down on me. Blinded by its lights, I swerved the wheel to the right. The car took off, suspended in the air for a moment before crashing. The force of the momentum pushed me to hit my chest against the steering wheel.

Loading them swiftly, I lean out of the broken window and take aim. The car in front of us swerves wildly as my bullets find their target. One strikes the driver’s side mirror, another punctures a tire. The vehicle veers, losing control, until it’s directly beside us. The driver retaliates, ramming into us again, the force almost throwing us off the bridge. I grab the wheel from her hands, steadying it with a sharp turn to the right. “Hold on!” I growl, flooring the gas pedal. Our car surges forward, slamming into the vehicle ahead. The impact sends it careening into the car in front of it. The chain reaction is brutal—the second car crashes through the railing, plunging into the river below

The van continues to swerve side-to-side, the driver unable to regain control. Another hit and the van lurches to the side and crashes into something solid. Patrick collides with me, colorful words spilling from my mouth as we slide towards Calvin. My back slams into the wall as we come to a halt, the behemoth smashed up against me. My ears ring from the impact, and it takes several seconds to get my eyes to focus. Patrick may be disproportionate as hell, but he’s still really fucking heavy.

And yet I whispered to myself, pleading to any higher being who could hear me: "Please let me make it in time." I sped through the intersection, weaving past traffic like a man possessed, my focus locked on getting to Maya before anything went wrong. But then a car crashed into mine. The jolt wasn't hard, but it was enough to rattle my bones. My Rolls-Royce skidded to a halt. "Shit," I hissed, slamming my palm against the steering wheel. Another car had pulled out a second too soon. A sleek black BMW.

It takes just a millisecond, and you'll crash harder than you've ever crashed. That was how hard I crashed when I heard footsteps outside the door to the stairwell. I crashed so hard I froze on impact. It wasn't the dramatic kind of freeze where your body tenses all at once, but the terrifying one where everything inside you goes quiet at first.

I say, loud enough to catch the attention of the couple beside us. He doesn’t. I try again, harder this time, and my voice cracks with fury. “I said let go!” I yank back with all the strength I can gather, and he finally releases me, but the motion sends me stumbling. I lose my balance on the heel of my shoe, my arm swinging wide, and I crash straight into a waiter coming from the side. It all happens at once.

Now you know that's a lie. One car crashes into mine causing me to lose control of my car and I swerve off the road coming into contact with the side of what seems to be an abandoned building wall, my brand new baby has been ruined, somebody's going to pay. I get out of my car and roll my neck stretching my hands in front of me, fine let's do this. Hopefully, I won't have to kill anyone.

The car swerves toward us, accelerating, weaving between the pillars. Nathaniel grabs me. He pushes me behind a concrete pillar, shielding me with his body. The car misses us by inches. The side mirror clips his arm. He grunts. The car crashes into the pillar. The impact is deafening, a crunch of metal and shattering glass. The airbags deploy with a sharp pop, white clouds of powder. The windows shatter, spraying glass across the floor, glittering in the dim light. The hood crumples like paper. The engine hisses, steam rising from the radiator.

Crash! A sharp, violent crack ripped through the sterile silence of the office. The remote control, a sleek, expensive piece of brushed metal, flew from James’s hand with terrifying force. It spun through the air like a deadly projectile, arcing across the vast room before shattering against the far wall, splintering into a dozen jagged fragments that clattered against the marble floor. The sound, sharp and final, seemed to echo his internal rage.

Autumn I stumble hard when Luke shoves me up onto the grass, almost slipping back into the road. I have just enough time to whip my head around before there’s the sickening sound of metal hitting something. The something is Luke, the car plowing right into him. He’s knocked off his feet and lands hard in the road, just a few feet away, but I see it when his head bounces off the pavement. “Luke!” I scream, the cry leaving my throat raw.
