The curtains weren't drawn. He saw a silhouette move against the glass. It was Laredo. He was standing with his back to the window, his shirt off, his shoulders broad and imposing. Then, another figure moved into view.

Toby’s breath hitched. She looked like a ghost, her skin pale, her movements jerky and forced. He watched as Laredo reached out and grabbed her hair, pulling her toward him. Toby saw her head fall back, saw the way her body went rigid.
