"A new flower?"
"Yes," she said, pointing, "that one, the red one. It isn't from the usual staff planting."
I directed my gaze to where she pointed, and caught my breath.
There it was, among the pale and silver moonflowers, a single crimson lily. It was rich, soft, and clean, as if it had just now blossomed. That was odd and immediately, something in my chest tightened.
I stepped forward. The lily was beautiful, sure. But it was wrong. Like a drop of blood on snow. And then I saw it, tucked between two petals, hanging from a black string. A tag.
