This story begins with A modern-world reader dies and wakes up as Kael Dreadmourne , the forgotten eldest son of the novel's primary villain, Lord Varen Dreadmourne, who was already slaughtered by the hero before the story even began. In the original novel, Kael was a background corpse , killed in Chapter 3 alongside his father's household. He has maybe two lines of dialogue before dying. He has four days before the hero's army arrives to purge the Dreadmourne bloodline. His only way out: the woman the original novel never explained , Seraphyne Voss, the Crimson Empress, the final boss the hero never actually defeated. In canon, she simply vanished. The readers never got closure. Kael knows why: she made a deal with someone. She traded her freedom for something. He's going to find out what. And offer her a better deal.

"Take my life but don't ruin my soul, please... I...I am a widow, " Tears streamed down from her eyes, watching that man hovering over her. Inessa softly hissed, when he slightly pressed the tip of the knife against her chin. "I didn't take your husband's life in front of your own eyes, so that I could let you go, " Her eyes widened when she found him wiping the knife against those tears in the corner of her eyes which made her fear intensity even more because she thought he was going to pierce it into her skin as she had seen him taking uncountable numbers of lives with no remorse. She again shut her lashes and waited to feel the sharp pain of her skin penetration but in the very next second, she felt the knife to get apart from her skin and warm drops of liquid falling on her lips. Her eyes opened when that liquid proceeded inside her parted lips and her tongue felt that metallic taste, and then she saw his palm bleeding. She teared up more by watching his soul quivering smirk. "Leave me.. Lea..." Her words got stuck inside her throat when she felt him grab her jaw which made her froze. She looked into his flaming darkened eyes with her reddened watery ones, and her whole body shivered in terror, feeling his palm getting inside her clothes. "Why? " her eyes never stopped forming tears . That question fell out from her mouth which was the question of her existence. Why did she have to endure all of that and why was she fated to get destroyed by him like this? "Because I am insane for you…." *DARK ROMANCE*

"No," I whispered as I ran ahead, instantly jumping into the river and grabbing her body, pulling it into my arms. I was sniffling and trying to hold back my tears while I swam back to land. Once she was placed on the ground, I looked at her helplessly, tears running down my cheeks. My body was trembling, and my wolf was whimpering loudly. I felt nauseous, and my head was throbbing badly. "She's fine," I said to myself in a cracked voice as I raised my hand and placed it on her chest. "Alpha!" Harvey called when he reached where I was. I looked at him with blurry vision, then back at my mate. "Why?" I whispered in a cracked voice. "Why can't I feel her heartbeat, Harvey?" I asked with a heavy heart, then moved my hand to my chest as I felt like I was suffocating.
