“Then we will not divide. Not from each other. Do you hear me, Gabriel? Patricia can whisper, Joana can steal, the world can crumble outside these gates but we do not break. Not us.”
For a moment, his guard slipped completely. He pressed his forehead to hers, eyes closing. “You are my strength, Lucy. More than any army, more than any wall.”
“Then hold on to me,” she whispered. “And I’ll hold on to you.”
Outside, thunder rolled in the distance, a storm gathering over the hills. But inside the library, with firelight flickering over their entwined hands, Lucy and Gabriel drew their first true line in the sand: against Joana, against Patricia, against the tide itself.
