“They’re packed in too tight! Y’all need to get out and take them out! Clear a path!”
A string of Spanish curses, hot and liquid, erupted from the back seat. I glanced back to see Carlos frantically patting down his pack, his jacket, the seats around him. “¡Mi arma! I can’t find my gun! It’s not here!”
Panic, cold and sharp, jabbed me in the ribs. My own hand went to my hip, and my fingers closed around the familiar, textured grip of my Beretta APX. I drew it, the weight a small, cold comfort. I prayed to a god I’d long stopped believing in that the magazine was full. There was no time to check.
