From where I was standing, looking out across the vast expanse of missing ground, it seemed to go on forever, and it had to be deep.
“It’s all right,” Ben assured me. “It’s deep but there's water in it. If you happened to fall in, you’d be fine, as long as you know how to swim.”
“I know how to swim,” I told him. “But I’m not the best swimmer.” Still, it was reassuring to know that I would be able to float down there until I figured out how to get myself out. But I didn’t want to drop the staff or any of the gems in either.
