**Amara's POV** Thursday. Volume two arrived. Not by courier. Adrian had collected it from the bookshop on Walnut Street in the morning before the school run. He had placed it on the bedside table beside volume one. Noah had seen it when he woke up. He had not said anything. He had looked at it. He had looked at the ammonite. He had looked at the two volumes side by side. He had nodded. He had gone to breakfast. At the kitchen table he had said, with the focused efficiency of someone reporting a completed inventory:

I know that there are a few tomes that are under lock and key for safety reasons, but if it’s just basic background information you’re looking for, then I think you should be able to find something.” Nora led us to the back of the large room, where we came upon a narrow bookcase and an entire glass case that had a large metal lock on its doors. I read a few of the spines before coming across one titled ‘Creaturae et Ineffabilia’. “Creatures and Unspeakables,” I muttered. “This one looks promising.”

A few girls are already up and loitering in the hallway and lobby, taking orders from Renee before scattering out to get to work. I burst open the door to Cory's room without knocking even after reading the sign Do not disturb. I'm know I'm acting like an annoying little sister right now. I know we'd talked a little about what we'd do with it, but we'd never actually decided. I walked into the room and smelled the distinct smell of books. It was the smell associated with a library or a bookstore. I felt a smile spread across my face as I took in the wall of bookshelves waiting to be completely filled. It seems that Lissa had already put hers and Rose's books on the shelves, but I knew I had quite a few to add to the collection. Together they climbed the staircase and opened the door that lay beyond. It was a small sun-filled room that had been made into a reading nook. Outside the window, you could see the entire estate and the road leading to it. It meant that someone reading up here could see anyone who entered or left the estate. There was a small fireplace on one side of the room, two comfy wingback chairs, and a chaise lounge. There was also a desk. She was silent. The reading nook was like a dream. She wanted to curl up on the chaise lounge and behind her exploration of the library down below. She didn’t want to leave this space for days until her book fever wore off if it ever would.

It was a bargain. I’m setting up an area in the lounge space by one of the arched windows as my reading nook. Dad has bought me a large fluffy, pale pink bean bag for the corner and Atlas has given me vouchers for Button’s shops on the hight street where I have my eye on a beautiful mahogany, square table. There’s a matching bookcase I want to get for all my books. Only, I do have a lot of books so I may need to put a bookcase or some shelving up in the bedroom too.

We reach the door, and I push it open, guiding her inside. What was once a plain room is now transformed into a haven for her.
