The hospital room seemed to radiate with warmth and coziness, but my son and I felt like our hearts were colder than a winter day. Cyrus had lost too much blood and was barely standing. I could not afford to waste any more time on a scumbag. Today might have ended in my loss, Chelsea, but the days ahead were long. By then, we would see who had the last laugh.

His face was so cold, and his skin was so pale. Cyrus looks down and his stomach turns. He's horrified at what he sees. "Fuck!... Hold on!" Cyrus said as he scooped his mangled mate off the ground and immediately took off running toward the hospital. Harris took a step in the direction Cyrus ran. He stared in that direction in disbelief. Was that really what he thinks it is?

The door flew open, and Cyrus appeared through the smoke, his face grimed with sweat as he held the frame open with his shoulder. "Get out! Now!" Cyrus yelled, gesturing toward the alleyway behind the clinic. Rohan didn't waste a second.

When I came into Cyrus’ room he was sitting up, April was sitting next to him holding his hand. “Do I look that fucking bad?” Cyrus asked when he saw me staring. There were some light scars on his face and body and he had lost some weight, but it surprised me how much his healing abilities had helped. He had been badly injured and I was scared he wouldn’t make it. Thank the Goddess he had married April and done that blood link and marking. It had surely saved him. “No, you look good. Glad to see you’re alive and awake.” I replied. “Wow I must have been really fucking hurt for you to be so nice.” Cyrus joked.

Melanie replied, skirting the issue. Cyrus was clearly dissatisfied, and he raised his voice, "I asked why you're hospitalized?!" With a hint of exasperation, Melanie replied gently, "It's just a minor issue. My heart isn't beating regularly, so they're observing me. Why don't you ask the doctor if you don't believe me?" Cyrus sighed and feigned indifference. "Tsk! It's not like I'm the one sick! I don't care about that!"

"I just need to tell you something. Something I should have already told you." I tried to prepare myself for the worst. Before I knew it, my eyes were watering. I hated that I couldn't control it. Cyrus said. “Don’t worry son. My daughter is very strong. She will be fine. I know this. We will not let anything happen to her” Curtis promised. And he meant what he said. He will hire best doctors for her to save her life. To him she is like his own daughter. Cyrus nodded his head and again looked at the closed door of the emergency room, praying desperately to the god to save her life. Hours passed by and finally the door opened. Cyrus and others were instantly by the doctor’s side.

“Again.” Over and over again, Cyrus brought her to the brink of death, then ordered Declan to heal her. This kept going until he felt the familiar exhaustion creep over him – it wouldn’t be long until he couldn’t do it anymore. The twelfth or thirteenth time, he lost count, she woke up and sobbed. “Please, no more.” “Cyrus,” Rowan finally spoke. “He’s spent. He won’t be able to heal her the next time.”
