The scent of dried blood lingered in the air, iron-heavy and bitter. It clung to the stones of the dungeon like a warning, sharp and unrelenting. Torches flickered along the corridor walls, casting long, uneven shadows that danced across the damp stone floor. Veyra descended into the depths of the keep, heart pounding, drawn by a chill that had nothing to do with the temperature. Jon was already there, crouched outside the open cell door. His face was pale, his jaw clenched, hands slick with blood that wasn't his.
