He took a step towards the elevators before he paused and partially turned. “We still leave at dawn,” he informed. “Should I book Flora’s ride for the same time?” Galileo inquired. “Does she bribe you or something?” From where I stood, I saw his eyes flash with anger. “Sorry, boss. I just assumed…since you’ve not been seeing others aside her lately…”

My chest pulled tight, like someone tied a rope around my ribs and kept pulling. Luca’s voice was distant. “Adrian? Talk to me.” But I didn’t answer. Because behind the sound of rain pounding the broken windows, I heard something else. Something raw. Something human. Something I didn’t want to hear but needed to. My own heartbeat. Fast. Uneven. Angry. Confused. I breathed out hard. “We’re done here. Burn it.” Luca nodded, pulling out gasoline. As we left the collapsing building, the flames began eating away the walls, sending smoke twisting into the storm.

Jennifer looked furious, while Elizabeth Blackwood, Curtis's grandmother, was studying us with a glint in her eyes. Everyone was watching. I placed my hand in Noah's. His fingers closed around mine, warm and strong, and he led me onto the dance floor. Suddenly, the quartet had shifted to a waltz. Noah's hand settled on my waist, and I placed mine on his shoulder. We began to move, and I was surprised to find he was an excellent dancer. "You're full of surprises," I murmured. "So are you." His thumb traced a small circle on my waist. "Showing up here took courage."

Am I a kid?” Then his eyes glowed as if challenged, and he leaned in towards me. “You should know that the devil never sleeps. You can’t get away with a sneaky peck on the cheek. So the next time, don’t play with fire if you fear getting scorched.” He walked away towards the restaurant. “I need a drink.”

But beneath her dress, her thigh holster pressed tightly against her skin, and the stiletto in her corset was a familiar weight—one she found oddly comforting. “Do you remember how to waltz?” Lucian whispered, guiding her onto the polished marble floor. “I remember how to kill in heels,” she said sweetly, letting him pull her into his arms. They danced as the orchestra rose behind them, strings and brass building a sound both romantic and foreboding. As they turned, Lucian’s lips brushed the shell of her ear. “In ten minutes, I’ll need to disappear. Keep the attention on you.” Her hand tightened slightly around his. “Don't die.”

It was just a way for him to have control and power over me. But I’m the one with the power here. To get my revenge, I would do anything, I would give anything, and right now, I was selling my soul to the devil. But in this story, there are two devils. One doesn’t just know it yet.

Cass said still looking at the already bruised wrist in her hands. “Dance with me.” Cass looked up at her then. Olivia gasped, she knew they said that you could see murder in someone’s eyes, she’d never seen it quite so clearly. She reached up, and touched Cass’s cheek, she ignored the room full of people watching them. “I’m okay, baby.” Cass nodded, pulled Olivia into her arms and the band started playing again as everyone started to dance again. “Can you say something?” “Not now,” Cass said.

But maybe because of the stress I’m experiencing, my body is giving up. I was looking outside the veranda when I saw the gate opened, and Callum’s car enter. My heart leaped for a moment when I saw his car slowly stopping. Faith later got out of his car. She was the one driving. He opened the shotgun door and Callum stepped out. Drunk and looks like he can no longer balance himself. It was like slow motion when he looked up at the veranda and at the same time as our eyes met, my tears fell because of what I was seeing now. Then he smirked devilishly.
