Chapter 45 Daniel couldn’t see anything after the power died. Darkness swallowed the holding layer completely. Not dim light. Not shadows. Complete blackness. For one terrible second, the only thing left inside the chamber was sound. Glass breaking. Metal groaning. People screaming somewhere in the dark. And beneath all of it— Breathing. Huge breathing. Amara’s fingers immediately found Daniel’s arm. He grabbed her instantly. “I’m here.” Her breathing shook beside him. The voices inside her head had become louder after the shutdown.
