Everything else got pushed or handled.” “Mm.” Daniel keeps scrolling. “Do you have anyone, Daniel?” I ask. His finger stops moving on the screen. He looks up slowly, like he's checking whether he heard correctly. “Sir?” I look at him properly. “Girlfriend? Fiancée? Fling? Anyone you're with?”

My voice was low, but it couldn’t hide the doubt I felt. Daniel sighed, shaking his head. “Have some faith in me, Jesse. I’m the country’s best surgeon, not some random doctor.” Daniel squinted at me, clearly waiting for an answer. “You still haven’t replied. Is she your girlfriend?” I didn’t hesitate. “She’s my fiancée.” His eyes widened, and he let out a low whistle. “Fuck, so the rumors are true? You, Jesse, actually settling down? When did you even get a girlfriend? You didn’t tell your best friend?”

Daniel smirked at her. "Whatever. Who is JD?" Adrienne persisted, not letting his attitude faze her. "Juliette Davis," Daniel replied casually, his smirk fading slightly. "Oh..." Adrienne settled back into her chair. "...and why aren't you answering your girlfriend's call?" she quizzed, raising an eyebrow in suspicion. "Ex-girlfriend. We ended things on a bad note," Daniel clarified. "You don't even seem sad about it," Adrienne observed, her gaze locked on him. They shared a momentary silence before Adrienne averted her eyes.

Hilda said. "Who is your boyfriend? Tell me. Daniel is your brother - in - law. Do you want to take him too? Since young, you have been taking everything that belongs to Carmen and now you are targeting her boyfriend too? Tell me." "Haha..." Cracking a laugh, Hilda looked at her mom who was twisting the facts then looked at Daniel and asked "Who is your girlfriend Daniel? Tell her." Frowning, Daniel looked flustered not knowing how to answer, he looked at Hilda. A grip of his arm sobered him up then he replied. "Sorry, but the person I love has been Carmen and it always will be."

They were still buzzing from the adrenaline of the verdict, but they had each other and that was enough. Angela swept into the room, her energy warm and proud. She went straight to Zoe and enveloped her in a long, tight hug. “I am so proud of you,” she whispered. “You did really well.
