The bear stamped on my backpack, causing the zipper to slide down a little bit to make a tiny hole.
My eyes caught a little black of Damien’s shirt, peeking out from inside my bag.
“Catherine, we have to run NOW!” Drake commands me but my body refuses to obey.
Something inside me burned like hot, glowing lava erupting from a previously inactive volcano as I stared at the visible piece of Damien’s shirt, and Midnight herself repudiated to leave this tiny bit of treasure with some overgrown, mucky, hostile, and flea-bitten black teddy bear. It’s the only thing I have left of HIM in this scary, unfamiliar place and I’ll surely be damned if I won’t be taking it back with me in one whole piece. I
