Chapter 5: gaze of mystery . *Skylar Hepburn* The boy in question looked towards his direction as if he knew Skylar was there and tilted his head finally completing the smile that he wanted to give him. Skylar's heart raced as he saw the boy's spectral form fixate on him. Anxiety gripped him like a vice, causing his breath to quicken and his palms to grow clammy.

Why had he fled immediately after that? Was it true that those with the loudest bark had the weakest bite? What happened to Phantom's dignity? Right then, Darren let out a roar. "Damn it! That bastard's making a run for it!" He grabbed a branch and went after Phantom. "Mr. Gulley, don't go after him!" Cassian shouted, but Darren didn't listen. As it was, out of all of them, Darren was certainly the one who resented Phantom the most. Everstream had felt like a secret paradise hidden from the rest of society, but Phantom's actions left all the villagers living in constant fear.

I wondered what her story was. “She traps people in her snare.” She elaborated, “That’s what fae fairies are good at. Inside the prison, her mind games won’t work but out here, I can’t say much. I’m Danny by the way. You’re the Russian vampire who stole blood bags from the hospital you worked at, right? Pleased to meet you.” “Same here, I guess? What did you do?” I blurted out. “Oh, I wiped out a group of werewolf hunters.” She said casually like she’d just dropped a few biscuits in her tea.

Emlyn gulped uneasily as he tried his best to calm down the raging fear in his mind. Luckily for them, for some reason, the monster was no longer facing them but opposite with its back filled with wriggling limbs before them. It was quite disturbing but much better than the maggot-covered, huge-sized face that had been facing them.

Jaws dropped and their eyes widened as if they had just come to realization of the danger before their eyes. Some of the assholes shrieked and were about to grab their guns but failed just as Danny lifted his leg and upturned their table in one blink. “Get out,” he snarls. I don’t know what the lot of them have seen because his back was turned to me, but there was no doubt it was something scary. The fear in their eyes said so. Van stood abruptly, shooting Danny a glare which probably was meant to intimidate him. Danny didn’t even flinch.

Phantom said. For a moment, the tension in the room shifted. Phantom had brought with him a glimmer of hope, and I was desperate for anything to stop this nightmare. But it wasn’t over—not yet. Damon quickly recovered, a snarl escaping his lips as he stood, summoning his shadows once again. The room grew darker and his energy surged.

I bit my lip hard enough to taste blood. The door creaked, and Phantom strolled in with his trademark calm, though tonight he wasn’t wearing his pristine white suit. Instead, black clung to his frame, sharp as a blade. His smile was venomous. “Well, well,” Phantom drawled, circling Damon like a predator. “How the mighty have fallen. You’re not looking so sharp, Damon.” Damon lifted his head, spitting blood onto the floor. “Go to hell.” Phantom chuckled. “Oh, we’re already there.” His voice dropped, sharp with menace. “Where’s the flash drive?”
