The perfect fiancée.” I sat up slowly, rubbing my face. Daphne stood by the mirror, already dressed in a sleek black blouse and pants, her makeup soft and flawless. She’d become so good at pretending things were okay. I wasn’t sure if she was pretending anymore.

Daphne had a shower first after she was done packing her belongings. After a few minutes, she grabbed a shirt and a jean from the bed and put them on. She didn’t have time to fix her hair and have some make-up as she wanted to get out of the house as quickly as possible. By the time she was done, she threw her torn wedding dress in a black garbage bag and went straight to the garbage bin by the side of her room. As she walked back again into her room, she set her bag and luggage, carrying the arm-sized back in her hand while she made her way downstairs. The minute she was on the first floor, she saw Tatiana again with her hands on her waist, looking livid as ever.

Even Daphne showed concern for me. I kept my smile fixed on my face. “I’m fine, Hein. Daphne, you look lovely.” It was strange to see her in a ballgown. She always preferred wearing pants. Daphne blushed a light shade of pink. This was a first. She was always so resentful. “That is a stunning dress,” she said. It was the most flattering thing she had ever said, as far as I was concerned. “He is a total ass,” she growled, and her eyes flashed annoyance. She meant Magnus, no doubt.

The gloves alone made her look like she was going to a gala, not a business office. People looked at her, some longer than they should, but she ignored them. Her bangs covered the bandage at her temple, and she hoped it stayed hidden.

She was grinning from ear to ear while my face had no single trace of excitement on it. “I’m so happy, Jordan.” She mumbled, and I rolled my eyes. “At least one of us is.” I replied, rather absentmindedly.
