We moved to the highest point of the Black Crag—the Crowned Summit, a jagged peak that was protected by a series of ancient, lead-lined arches. The heat was still astronomical, the white light of Solis beating against the stones like a physical hammer. Nathaniel had constructed a "Blight-Diffuser" out of salvaged iron and quartz. Inside the glass chamber, a swirling mass of oily, black smoke—the captured Blight—was thrumming with a predatory hunger.

I sat quietly listening to the drip sound that echoed in the bathroom as my blood tapped the surface of the still water. It was soothing. I took the first drag and blew the smoke towards her face. That seemed to do the trick, her eyes snapped open. Revealing the puffiness and redness it had hidden. "ah, I see. You want a smoke right? " I lifted the cigarette to her face. Her sullen gaze metamorphosed into a glare. I chuckled softly and took another drag of the cigarette and dispelled the smoke in her face again. Her eyelids fluttered for a few seconds, when she finally glared back at me again, there was moisture shining under her lower lids. I was sure the moisture wasn't because she was crying.

Krister asked, looking at his tablet still before walking to the back room. “Black? She doesn’t-- I mean didn’t wear anything else?” she asked, her eyebrows meeting in the middle confused. “Don’t tell me she’s one of those people…” “Yes, specifically black clothing. They’re hot in the day but you disappear in the night. That’s what she always said to me.” Krister disappeared in the back to get something whilst Rojean was left there to contemplate on her own how she was going to pull the act off if she was a bad liar herself.

Their blood filled each side of the bed. I walk out of the bedroom without touching anything. I open the door to Lockie’s room. He sits up and looks directly at me. “Who are you?” he cries. “It’s ok Lockie! It’s me… Killian.” I whisper. “Why are you in the dark?” he sniffles. “Because I can’t let you see my face.” I explain. “Mum told me your very poorly. I won’t be scared of your face. You’re my big brother and I love you.” He chirps.

I have work to do.” Without another word nor warning she pushed me inside and closed the door behind me. A strong sweet aroma hit me, dominated by vanilla. My eyes had to adjust to the lighting, it was much darker here. Candles were seen all around the room, in the middle a round bed where three people lay, their bodies intertwined with one another.
