Shadowborn. The first one lunged at Rowan, claws out. I didn’t wait. I shifted, bones snapping, fur bursting across my skin. My wolf roared out of me with all the rage I’d been choking down since Aurora collapsed. I collided with the creature mid-air, ripping into its chest. Black smoke poured out, burning like acid against my fur. Rowan shifted too — silver fur gleaming, his wolf larger, colder, more controlled. He tore through two more with a single swipe.

Every time the line threatened to break, I slipped in to hold it. And still, the enemy kept coming. A howl ripped through the night—deep, guttural, and wrong. My blood ran cold. From the shadows emerged a wolf unlike any I’d seen before, its pelt a swirling mass of black smoke, eyes burning with violet fire. The Shadowfang alpha. It locked eyes on me. Before I could react, it lunged.

The wolves stopped their brawling to look at her. “Sylvia, she is gorgeous!” Hunter linked me in awe as he gaped at Kira. Blaze grinned from ear to ear at his mate. Wolf turned to her with pure hatred in his red eyes. I knew he had always despised Kira from the very start. Kira stared back at him not flinching. He charged at her, but she moved away, light on her paws. Blaze flanked them, readying himself to attack. Kira mocked charged Wolf and as he lifted himself on his hind legs to meet her attack, she ducked underneath him, ripping into his underbelly. I tasted his blood in my mouth and I wanted more.

Luke pov As the shadows slowly began to release their grip on me, an instinctive anger ignited within, burning hotter than the darkest depths of the void that had threatened to swallow me whole. All around, I could sense my pack gathering strength—Carrie’s fierce determination, Ryder’s unyielding loyalty, and Rachel's frightened yet resolute presence in the corner of my mind. Our shared bond pulsed like a heartbeat, commanding me to fight back. “You think you can break free?” the black wolf taunted, his voice echoing through the night like thunder. “This realm belongs to the darkness now!”

Was Aaron one of the wolves we were fighting or was he one of the wolves helping us? My mind now quick to think of Jake and how Jake was going to handle the news.

He didn't know what to say or do, but he was just glad that she was okay. Blair held both of Ashier's hands tightly, and they continued to stare at each other in silence. Ashier felt a strange sensation wash over him as he looked into her eyes. He tried to ignore it, but it was difficult to resist. As they continued to stare at each other, Ashier's wolf suddenly surged inside him. He felt the familiar longing for his mate and the desire to claim her as his own. He tried to fight it back, but he couldn't. It was a primal urge that he couldn't ignore.

I whispered, reaching for the shampoo. She sighed softly and leaned completely into me, trusting me with her weight. As I worked the shampoo into her hair, massaging her scalp with gentle fingers, I felt it—the deep connection between us. Our wolves recognized each other now. Her emotions brushed against mine like a warm touch. I could feel her contentment, her lingering pleasure, and the slight soreness between her legs. Everything felt so right. So complete. Yet that dark shadow lingered in the back of my mind. The water people were still out there, searching for her, waiting for the perfect moment to strike and take what was mine. The thought made my chest tighten with protective rage.

Her eyes narrowed as she saw me strolling in her direction. I pressed my nozzle against her before licking her, causing her to growl. Lyon and Tor went running away, giving us some privacy. Once they were far, I tackled Shadow and bit her softly on her neck. She growled, panting, and got on her paws, but I shifted back. “That’s for leaving without a notice where you went,” I growled back, meeting her angry stare. She stretched out as she turned to her wolf form. “Maybe we should fuck while in wolves.”
