The air was thick with the taste of sulfur and ancient death, heavy enough to rip the breath from mortal lungs. Emperor Caelum rode a top-class shadow-warhorse at the head of the obsidian ridge expeditionary force, his midnight-black imperial coat snapping sharply in the freezing gale. His shoulders squared, the dark star-metal crown glinting in the pale, ashen light, throwing a long, commanding shadow across the scarred ground. His gold-and-silver eyes scanned the perimeter with the cold, calculating focus of an apex predator who smelled blood on the wind.

Locked them away. Sweat slid down my neck. My breathing steadied. Minutes passed. Or hours. I did not know. A voice outside the door made my eyes snap open. “Prepare Prince Lior.” Another voice answered. “The carriage to the Tyrant Emperor leaves at dawn.” Silence. I stared toward the door. Then slowly… I smiled. Cold. Sharp. Terrifying. “Ragnar,” I murmured. The Blood Tyrant. The monster emperor. The man this body had feared so much he chose death.

If he does not see what faintly strides through the dark night. So he turns again. He does not come to full view. He watches the figure move like the zombies from the video game. It was how the Apocalypse begins. First, a single zombie is seen raiding the streets but just as humans think they had it under control, a pack would lash out of a corner, charging towards them. No! Don't think that. Zombies are not real.

“It's not like that. It's not something you can get rid of. It's part of me; it's my other half. It's who and what I am. Don’t you see, I am the darkness! To get rid of it would be to get rid of me. I'm no good for you. I will only cause you pain and suffering. I am the darkness! I'm the monster everyone's afraid of. I'm the beast in the dark that children have nightmares of. I am the evil from the depths of hell and will only snuff out your light, little angel. You and I can never be together!” He said with a deep and rough voice. Smoke seeped from his body again, and a dark aura rose from his body like a shadow looming over her.

Golden claws clashed against black scales. The impact shattered another mountainside. Stone rained from the sky. The Devourer twisted through the Guardian's grip with unnatural speed. Its massive jaws opened. Darkness gathered again. This time aimed only at me. The Empress threw herself into its path. A wall of golden light exploded from her body. The darkness struck it. The light held. For one second. Then cracks spread across the barrier. The Empress cried out. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.

No one spoke again. The Blackwood empire had its first real fracture tonight. And deep down, I knew this was only the beginning. Things might get worse from here, and we wouldn’t even know how to stop it anymore. That thought alone scared the life out of me.

Draevor was already watching her, his expression stripped of every trace of defensiveness or concealment. Only exhaustion remained, and beneath it was something she had never imagined seeing in the Emperor of the North. The sight unsettled her far more than the ancient prophecy itself as she held his gaze while the lantern flame trembled softly between them. “Tell me,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper, “exactly what this thing intends to take.”

I am too scared to open my eyes when I feel a flesh touching me. “Again, who is he?”, this time my gaze is at the guy with green eyes. “Uh…I guess..his name was…”Xander is going to say when I hear Ethan’s voice “Necromancer” “Yeah the one who rules demon”, I am shocked by how little does Xander knows “No…he is the one who raises the dead”, all four of us turn around and see hundreds of dead bodies standing alive in front of us. “Hazel..you take the left…Xander goes right…I and Calla will handle the rest of them."
