On the horizon, dark clouds gathered, hinting at a storm unlike any they had seen before. The trio turned to face the horizon, their eyes widening as they took in the approaching tempest. The clouds weren't just dark; they swirled menacingly, lightning bolts zigzagging through them like furious, electrified snakes. Cassandra, her voice shaking, whispered, "What is that?" Elara, her grip tightening on her pendant, replied, "It's the Gathering Storm. It's said to appear only when a great shift in power is imminent." Darius, ever the strategist, began to analyze the situation. "That's not just a natural storm. It's dark magic. And it's heading straight for us."

By the time I got back to the packhouse, it was already after dark and I went into the living room where Lucas, Jude and Aria were watching the News. I wasn’t wrong about the riots. Cities all over the country were going up in flames. They were actually filming humans being attacked and killed by vampires. I was watching Lucas as he was fixated on the TV and I could see how intensely he was watching the TV. But it was now sunrise, and the vampires were running from the scenes of these riots. Running back to their hideouts so they didn’t burn in the sun. That was the only reprieve that we were going to have at the moment.

Specks of snow settled against Lucinda’s olive skin as she gazed at the sky and repeated the words that didn’t make any sense to Mara. Growing more worried by the second, Mara approached her mother, hoping to snap her out of her trance. “Mother,” she repeated tentatively, reaching out a hand. When her fingers came into contact with her mother’s shoulder, Lucinda finally snapped her attention to Mara.
