He turns and notice I’m sitting in the room in the clinic. “I’m Luke, Justin’s brother.” He gives me his hand for a handshake. I stood up from the sit and take his hand. “I’m Arthur.” I say respectfully and with a smile on my face.

“His wife changed too. Even their children. Arden was treated like a burden. His inheritance was slowly squandered. Properties were sold. Accounts emptied. Curtis lived large while Arden lived small.” “Did anyone notice?” Ryder asked. “No one questioned him. Curtis had a clean image. A grieving brother raising his nephew. He played the role well.” Ryder scoffed quietly. “The only thing Curtis didn’t stop,” Corner added, “was Arden’s education. He allowed him to remain in school. That was the only mercy he showed. Curtis needed Arden quiet and obedient.” “After wasting most of the inheritance, Curtis ran out of money. That’s when he went to Xavier for help.”

There was nothing to be nervous about. "Let's get you another one of those," the Hispanic man said and signaled to the bartender. We began chatting as I sipped on another glass of alcohol. The man sitting on my left was a tall, thin black man named Curtis. He had gone to Columbia and was now an accountant by day. He was clearly very intelligent and witty, and confident in himself. On my right was Greg, who had gone to BYU as a baseball player and become a Mormon missionary before leaving and finding a new life as a high-school gym teacher. He had dirty blonde hair and light blue eyes. He was the shortest of the group, and also probably the most reserved.

“Yeah. I think so.” Curtis is kicked back. Watching the moons reflection dance across the lake. “I think she’s good for you, man. You’re…. not as grouchy.” I get my back up and scowl. “I’m not grouchy.” Dale raises his bottle. “Oh, you’re grouchy.” He smiles before swinging his beer.

Fake concern maybe. “I am Arthur Murray. The curse mean nothing to me.” He said stubbornly. “Arthur…” I called his name. My tone was soft and warm. He looked down to meet my gaze. “Whatever it is your decision is, just know I am here with you and by your side okay?”

Back in those days, Curtis was a famous, exquisite noble son in the capital. He was handsome, suave, and sophisticated. More importantly, he was a crackerjack and was definitely the first of his kind in the entire Eastcliff.
