he says with a chuckle. “Dean’s,” Archer says and shakes Jacob’s hand. Something changes in his demeanor, and it’s then I notice how tired and worn Archer looks. “I’m attending a physician’s conference in the city.” “But that still doesn’t explain why you’re here,” I press. “I’ll let you guys catch up,” Jacob says, reaching out to take my hand. He gives it a squeeze. “Call me if you need anything. See you later.” He turns to Archer. “Nice to meet you.” He walks past us, going to the party to celebrate the successful launch of our new program. The shock starts to wear off and my heart speeds up. Archer is here. In my office. The last time I saw him, he grabbed me and almost kissed me.

Rich says, “Hello there, I’m Rich Ford. Thank you for protecting my children.” Archer grins as he gives him a firm handshake. “It’s my pleasure, sir. I’m just grateful I was there.” “Hi! I’m Dani; it’s nice to meet you…” She trails off, waiting for him to give her his name. He smiles, “Archer, Archer Hale.”

“And now he’s here. He moved into the city a week ago. He’s staying at a motel near the mansion.” I exhaled sharply. Jacob Archer. That name hadn’t crossed my mind in years. Mr. Archer and my uncle had been close once. They did business together. I had met him a handful of times. But when he tried to double-cross my uncle, that was the end of it. My uncle cut him off, and not long after that, the fire happened. I thought that was the end of the Archer family. Clearly, I was wrong. “Did you find out who he’s working with?” I asked.

Archer clenched his jaw, taking deep breaths, trying to calm himself as he looked at me. “Why Tony?” He finally asked. “I mean, Lucas would have worked but I guessed that with me gone, you will need your second best hacker here.” I shrugged. “Oh really?” He crossed his arms. “I could take Marcus if not Tony. You do have other chefs.” I shrugged. “Marcus?” Archer questioned. “The really cute chef in his mid-twenties?” I tried to jog his memory. “You are not taking him or Tony with you!” Archer snapped. “You thought of a freaking chef, Tony and Lucas and I didn’t even cross your mind?” He raised an eyebrow in question.

"Please, Archer, I need to know." Taking a deep breath, Archer finally opened up about an incident that occurred three months earlier at Alice's baby shower. He revealed that he had been receiving threatening messages and was struggling to trace their source. Archer suspected a woman Archer encountered might be behind it, as she had managed to cast a spell that only dissipated when I arrived just in time to intervene, and the mystery lady disappeared. Otherwise, he feared he might have unknowingly followed her under the spell's influence. Hearing this, I couldn't help but feel frightened by the implications.

“Finally. Let’s get this over with.” I walked to the door, my hand resting on the knob. For a second, I thought about Henry’s little laugh, the way he clung to me when he was scared, and it fueled my resolve. Then, I pulled the door open. And froze. Standing there was not a driver, but Archer. His lips twisted into a sinister smile, his eyes glinting with malice. Behind him, several men loomed, each one raising a gun, the barrels gleaming in the daylight.

he said and I could visibly see Damon relax. “So do you write the same stuff?” Kat asked more intrigued now that she knew who Archer was. “Hell no, she writes all those weird fantasy stuff, I write historical war fiction,” he said. “I think I’ve read a few of your books, Archer Blue right,” Damon said and Archer smiled. “Yep, that’s me,” he said as if it was nothing. Damon and Archer talked about his books and dominated the whole conversation so Kat and I moved to the living room with a bottle of wine and I asked her if she knew what happened when Damon went back to that bar and returned full of blood.

And I still had Kayla to deal with. "Hey, at least Damien doesn't want to skin you any more!" Archer laughed from the back of our mind, "Although when he hears your father's plan for Ab's, he might!" Sighing, I felt my mood worsen; Archer was right. This was a fucking nightmare! Except it was my life now, apparently.
