I pulled the text free and opened it, my fingers trembling despite myself. Unlike Lunareeth, this book was filled with dense writing, diagrams etched in faded ink, and warning seals pressed into the margins. Dead Viles. A deadly, ancient poison. I started reading about it, and the more I read, the more my heart shuddered with a cold chill…

Life couldn’t have been better. Despite that, I couldn’t help but wonder what the rest of the Duttons were up to. I knew that as long as they didn’t find a body, they wouldn’t declare a death. This led to endless speculation in society about whether the two of us were truly dead. Rumors and gossip spread everywhere, but I remained unmoved. Every day, I soaked up the sun, watched handsome men by the sea, and lived a life of pure indulgence. After half a year, though, I started to get a little bored.

“You call me girl, yet I’ve already put a man in the ground while you sit here trembling at my husband’s table. Tell me—should we call you boy?” The lieutenants shifted uneasily. No one laughed. The man’s face darkened, sweat beading at his temple. He opened his mouth, but Dante cut him off, his voice a growl, final. “Enough.” He rose from his chair, the wolf in full. His shadow stretched long across the table, swallowing the man whole. “Loyalty is not negotiable. Doubt is a disease. And diseases are cut out before they spread.” At his nod, Marco moved. The man was dragged from his chair, his protests cut off in a spray of blood as the sound of a silenced gun echoed through the chamber.
