I took the card out and tossed it in front of him. "This is it. Until the day she died, Mom thought there was just an issue with the bank. She even told me that once she recovered, she'd take me to see you and clear things up. Sadly, she never lived to see that day."
Staring at that debit card, Ian blanched in a heartbeat. It only dawned on him now that someone must've tampered with it.
He pulled out his phone and dialed a number right in front of me. As soon as the call connected, he cut to the chase. "Why was the card I gave them empty?"
