The other was shorter, all solid muscle—he didn't wait or strategize, just charged forward like a living battering ram. Rea backed away—and then hit a tree.
The female demon smiled.
"That was your last step, mortal."
Despite the pain, Rea drew her backup knife from her boot. It didn't matter how much it hurt—she didn't show it. She braced for the strike, the final blow... Then something flashed past her. She didn't see it—only felt it.
