She stared at the floor, lost in thought as she wondered what her fate would be in this dark place. The silence was broken by the heavy clanking of metal. She blinked in confusion as a demon guard appeared and unlocked the gate. "You are free to go," he muttered, holding the gate open for her. Sylvara stood up slowly, her movements cautious. She stepped out of the cell and took a deep breath, letting out a long sigh of relief. Even though the air in this part of the Abyss was thick with poison, it didn't bother her at all. She was a demon, after all, and she could inhale as much of the toxic atmosphere as she wanted without a second thought.

He looked again at the book I was carrying and let out a sigh, as if what he was about to say weighed more than he had expected. “What you saw last night…” he began, his eyes serious, “wasn’t a nightmare or a hallucination. Scarlett, the creature that almost drowned you is a gorgon. A princess of the lake, to be exact.” The words barely seemed real, and for a moment I thought it had to be some kind of joke. “A… gorgon?” I repeated, incredulous. “Like in the legends?” “Yes.” Alex nodded, his expression completely certain. “I don’t know why a lake princess attacked you, but I promise I’ll find out.”
