He looked at my claws; then into my eyes; he didn’t see any mercy; he saw the demon. “Stop!” he screamed; his eyes shut, slowly opening to look into my cold ones; “I’ll tell you; I’ll tell you where it is!” My hand stopped just inches from his heart poking his chest; the demon growled with disappointment; the wolf smiled with satisfaction. “Hmm,” I lowered my hand; I leaned in close to him. “That’s better.”

Both of them went still. And in that stillness, something in the room shifted, an energy, a pressure, like the air was holding its breath. My mother swallowed hard. “Because someone has activated the Harvest Sequence,” she whispered. “The final one.” I stared. “What does that mean?” My father answered. “It means the future, werewolves are coming for you directly. Not the academy. Not the students. You. Because you’re the last Devourer. And if they get their hands on you, Zara… reality collapses.”

And a weapon. “The Hunter has returned,” a raspy voice spoke from the center of the platform. An old demon with gray hair and withered skin leaned forward. His wings looked more like dried leaves than proud sails, but his eyes were still sharp and cruel. “And he brought with him… a pet?” A low murmur rippled through the hall. Mocking laughter. Whispers. Once, the old version of me, mall-girl Abigail, would have burst into tears or wished the floor would swallow her whole. But that Abigail was dead.

I still couldn't make out what he looked like, the hood was drawn too far over his face. I felt the cold metal of his gun press against my forehead. "You're going to die now, just like your little friend Allison." He spoke coldly. I felt dread consume me. This man here was the real murderer. He had killed Allison not Nate. I could feel the desperate thumping of my heart against my chest as he placed his finger on the trigger. This was it. I was going to die. I closed my eyes waiting for it to happen; to hear the gun fire, to smell the gun powder. I waited to feel the searing pain. But the pain would last only for a second. Then I'd feel nothing. Forever.

He was trying to distract me but I won't let that happen. My army fired bullets and killed most of the demon wolves, but still they were more in number than us. They are demons and need to be killed before they can attack us. So far, our army wiped half of his demon wolves but they keep coming from somewhere. “This is my Magic, Onyx! The more you will kill them, the more they will respawn.” Tigor commented on our fight. I realized that this battle will not be over until Tigor is dead. I clutched my claws and lashed at him. I kicked on his face and threw his body far away. Before he could get up and attack me. I attacked him and bit the flesh from his leg.

Tommy didn’t believe me, of course. Who would? I had to beg him. My friend shrugged and promised to wait in our chambers until I dealt with the problem. The issue was resolved the same night. I simply summoned the hunter. As hellhounds weren’t simple dogs, hunters weren’t simple demons. He appeared almost immediately, looking at me with his blood-red eyes. He was tall, gangly, and reminded me of a cellar spider. In the cloud smoke which hid his features he seemed clumsy and awkward—if you didn’t know how fast and deadly he could be.

The man fell to the ground, screaming in pain while Ares just rolled his eyes and threw the eyeball on the ground and stomped on it because squatting in front of the man. He grabbed the man by the hair and lifted his head up so they were eye leveled. “I told you I don’t do second chances but you are someone I’ve known for so long so I don’t want to kill you off just like that but if you don’t find a way to get me rid of this demon the next time we meet, I won’t just be taking away your other eye but also your life. Got that?” He pushed the man to the ground as he stood up then turned to Cornelius with a groan.

They were high ranking one but it seems like their boss is not here. He could be down there. I should hurry up too.
