Magic in the Moonlight
"Derek, he's telling the truth. He didn't mean to scare me, but I was reading and didn't hear a damn thing. He startled me is all. Marsh didn't do anything to me. I'm fine. Let him go."
Marsh tipped his head back even further and I realized he was offering his throat to his Alpha as a sign of submission. Derek growled softly at him, his muzzle only an inch from Marsh's ear and neck, then slowly backed off. Marsh stayed where he was on the floor, while Derek came to circle me. He sniffed my hands, ran his cold, wet nose up the back of my knee, and nosed the book I'd dumped on the floor in my fright.
With a shudder, the wolf gathered himself inward and there was a sort of shimmer in the air. W
