“Ben,” I call, raising my voice. “You’re up.”
Mala blinks. “Wait—what?”
Ben steps into the ring with a grin that should be illegal. He rolls his shoulders, cracks his neck, and throws her a wink that makes her scowl.
“Oh, this’ll be fun,” he says, swaggering exaggeratedly. “You sure you’re ready for this, kid?”
Mala bristles exactly like I knew she would.
