I grabbed my father’s journal and held it over the flames.
"Aara, no!" Sloane screamed, struggling against Damian’s grip. "That’s the only copy! Without that, the 'Negative Space' is permanent!"
"Good," I said.
I dropped the journal into the fire. The vellum curled, the ink of my childhood and the formula for the world’s erasure vanishing into ash and light.
With the formula gone, the fight left Sloane. She slumped against the stone wall, watching the last of the journals turn to gray flakes. Damian stood over her, his chest heaving, his shirt stained with indigo and sweat.
