But instead, I grabbed the final shot, tipped it back, and tried not to think about how gravity suddenly felt ten times stronger. That was the last coherent thought I had before Dexter appeared out of nowhere, practically lifting me off the ground. “Alright, champ, let’s get you home before you actually pass out,” Dexter said, half laughing, half hauling me towards the door. “But…” I protested weakly, dragging my feet. “I gotta… defeat… Evans.” “You did, buddy. You totally crushed him,” Dexter lied, as any good friend would. “No, no, no.” I mumbled, flopping against him like a rag doll. “He’s too... smug. and his glasses... they... they have powers.”

She made a terrible mistake, one she can’t recover from. Soon, the party was finally over, and everyone left for their various houses. Aurora was already dozing off; she wanted nothing more than to head home. But she knows Dexter would most likely talk to his father. They drove back to the house, Maya fuming all the way, but she tried to keep her calm. She kept wondering how he was able to heal; they did check up the other day, and he couldn’t move. How was he able to deceive them? Everyone walked in with Dexter still in his wheelchair.

Dad said, before I said anything. I practically ran out the door in search of Enzo. I found him in the corridor outside the formal chamber, standing with his back to the wall in the particular posture of someone taking one moment of stillness before re-entering the current. He looked at me when I came around the corner. He told me quietly and without a warning I knew it was bad news before he started. I listened. When he finished I was quiet for a moment. “We found Dexter in his cell. He was drugged and stabbed in the chest.”

He raised his hand and slowly reached out to her. The ice in his eyes melted and was replaced by a rush of deep affection. It was the same affection that conquered her and made her lose herself. In the end, she lost to him in the mist humiliating way. Thinking of the past, Barbara was filled with resentment. She slick clenched her hand inti a fist and was about to punch Dexter when the door was pushed open abruptly. Before she raised her hand, a soft voice rang out. "Dexter?" Standing at the door with a bag in a hand, Emily was stunned by what she saw. Dexter didn't panic at all for being caught by Emily. He turned his head and asked calmly, "why are you here?"

The wolfsbane being used on Dexter was rapidly taking effect on him. "Leave Rolex, please." As he charged towards the Alpha, he heard his brother's voice again. Gathering all the strength left in him even after the bad effect of the wolfsbane that had been used on him, Dexter stood up on his feet. When Rolex was just a few steps away from the Alpha and his brother, he saw a sharp claw passing through his brother's stomach. That was the end, because Dexter fell on the floor almost lifeless while bleeding. Rolex could do nothing, because he was no match for the Alpha. The looks on his face scares him so much, making him take steps away from him as the Alpha continues drawing closer to him.

She owes me way more than sorry. "Save it," I said, and picked up my pace. Selene was standing outside the healing den when we arrived. She looked like she’d been crying. "Rhea, are you okay?" she asked, glancing at the bandage on my arm. "I'm fine. How's Dexter?" Selene's face fell. "See for yourself." I took a deep breath and entered the den. Vira followed behind me. Dexter lay on a mat, a wreck. Deep, jagged claw marks from shoulder to waist, like they tried to tear him open. His legs were mangled. I broke down immediately. Vira, Selene, and the healer stared as I sobbed.

On the one hand, Caitlin was greatly relieved; but on the other, she wouldn’t really believe it until she saw for herself, saw Scarlet awake, her eyes open, saw the same old Scarlet she had always known—happy and healthy. Caitlin ran through in her mind, again and again, the events of the past 24 hours. But no matter how she dissected them, none of it made any sense—unless she returned to the same conclusion: that Aiden was right. Her journal was real. That her daughter was a vampire. I catch the first aid kit and just toss it beside me. Amelia walks towards me and then she saw the broken broken TV in the middle of the living room. "Are you serious???" Amelia, asks. I didn't answer, I just kept my mouth shut and let my tears flow. Amelia sighed then sat beside me. She opened the first aid kit, then started treating my hand. I didn't even flinch when the antiseptic touches my wound. After a few minutes, Amelia finished treating my wound, then lean back against the couch. I looked at her and I can see regret and guilt written all over her face.

I can do that. I ask Alex to back away from the parking space and then I dial the number. My heart is beating really fast as I wait for him to pick up the phone. I have so many questions right in the tip of my tongue. However, when the phone is answered, another voice speaks to me. I can’t say it’s an unfamiliar one, though. Dexter says to me, “I want to meet with you.” Anger and disappointment washes over me. I can’t believe this. I thought that Ambrose was alive, and now this happens? It’s discouraging, to say the least.

“To make sure that we would know who the traitor of the alliance is, we set up a trap. But the trap that we set cost Dexter’s life.” The voice of Mateo’s father broke, and we know that whatever it was that he was going to share had something to do with it. “Dexter wasn’t given a painless death,” he continued. “He was tortured until he could no longer breathe. But even though he was in a lot of pain, he didn’t even once let them break his will. He was so focused on our goal that he was able to leave me clues on how I would determine who the traitor is.”
