I turned around slowly, pasting a wide, empty smile on my face. The man standing behind me wore a deep maroon suit tailored perfectly to his broad shoulders. A half-mask fashioned from dark leather covered the upper portion of his face, but his lips were curved into a vicious little smirk. I recognized the gold insignia pinned to his lapel instantly. Adrian had forced me to memorize the family crests on the car ride over. This man belonged to the Uncle's faction. He was a direct enemy in the inheritance war, and he was standing close enough to smell my fear.

Adrian was about to lead the few people beside him down another path but they noticed that the Octo Chariots were already speeding toward them. The thirty black Octo Chariots, all specially modified armored vehicles, looked fierce as they drove on the streets. Adrian was confused, but when he saw the first person getting out of one of the vehicles, he suddenly realized something. Leading the way was Talan Franke, the deputy captain of the Dragon Squad. Beside him was Roy Nunez, one of the heroes who had fought alongside Adrian and helped capture Sandstone and Leafall.
