“That, and ’cause you walked in here, sat down, and already got Miss Patty likin’ you. You mentioned a susie-may? And i have to add that our first ride here, you spent it telling me what you did not like about my hometown.”
I frowned. “She was just being nice, i am not freaked out by niceness. And you were an ass.”
“Maybe. Or maybe people round here don’t see you as much of an outsider as you think.”
Before I could respond, Miss Patty returned with our food, setting down plates piled high with slow-cooked meat, golden fries, and soft, buttery rolls. My stomach rumbled at the sight, but I pretended not to notice.
“Enjoy, y’all,” she said with a wink before walking off.
