Duncan's POV The war room was quiet except for the crackle of the fire burning in the corner. I sat at the large wooden table, staring at the map spread out before me. My fingers drummed slowly against the table’s edge. The map showed the territories of the nearby packs, the old paths between them, and the places where battles had been fought long ago. But I was not really looking at the map. My mind was full of other thoughts. Thoughts of her.

Xander and I were already in the war room when he arrived, Kael and Rowan at our sides. Xander took the package carefully, unwrapping it with ease then pulled out the map and laid it out flat on the table for everyone to see. The map was massive, stretching across almost half the table. It was hand-drawn, but meticulously detailed—showing every room, hallway, and underground passage in the stronghold. I sucked in a breath as my eyes scanned over the layout. The other four he couldn't place without a map, and the estate's maps had gone with the strongbox.
