AlIRA’S POV The doctor’s question did not register immediately. It just hung in the air like something unreal. I stared at him, certain I had heard wrong. My fingers tightened around the edge of the hospital bed. “What did you say?” The doctor did not look amused. His expression remained calm for someone who had just asked a question capable of stopping my heart. He adjusted the file in his hand and repeated himself slowly. “I asked...
