I might’ve felt bad for the guy if he wasn’t a raging, misogynistic prick. The wolf’s eyes left Duncan for a fraction of a second, flicking over to my face. I held back a gasp, another glimmer of recognition hitting me square in the chest. No, this couldn’t be that wolf. It had been years since I’d last seen it. It was impossible. Faster than Duncan could scream, the wolf lunged. Its teeth sank into his shoulder, slicing through muscle and bone. He dragged Duncan out kicking and screaming, into the night where his cries continued without faltering.

Rowan left before Iris could see him. Iris sat up and looked around. The air stank of blood and the bank was carpeted with dead bodies. Iris felt nauseous and and finally threw up. I settled into a quiet corner, hoping to lose myself in the story. The book started like any other werewolf novel, talking about full moons and shifting. But then, I turned the page and my breath caught. There was a picture. Not the usual handsome man turning into a wolf, this was different. This wolf was massive with glowing red eyes and thick, dark fur. The caption underneath read, “Cursed Alphas.” It looked… powerful. Intimidating.

I stood as I said, "We can't go back." But Ryan misunderstood. He thought I was about to badmouth him to Dominic and grabbed the hem of my long dress. The dinner seating was arranged along the terrace steps of the estate, perfectly framed by the night and the glow of moonlight. With that sudden tug, I lost my balance.
