Donatello was in his room when he heard a knock. Quickly, he tucked the note under his pillow and stood up. “Come in,” he said. His aide, Marcello, entered and bowed. “Is there a problem?” he asked sternly. “No Boss,” Marcello said, then added, “I just received an invitation from Senator Vincenzo. He has invited you to his opening gala.” Marcello handed him the invitation. His boss quickly opened it and scrammed through the paper.

As if he didn't quite know how to handle what we had become. I swallowed hard. "You're not going to force me, are you?" A flicker of something crossed his face - anger, irritation, maybe even hurt - before it disappeared behind his usual cold mask. "I'm not a monster, Rachel." His voice was low, rough. I exhaled slowly, nodding. "I know." Another pause. Damon ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply. "The full moon is in two days." I tensed. "I know."

Elara’s POV “It has been a long time since we last saw each other. Your brother’s coronation, I think? You look very good in the wake of all that has transpired.” Donatello walked to me with a skip in his step, seeming to be leaning in for a hug. I stepped out of the way, backing into Kaden’s chest. “It is always a pleasure to see you, Councilman,” I said politely. “We are out of our lands,” Donatello said, his voice lower. “It will be more inconspicuous if you called me by my name.”

That part to her was doubtful. “Are you ready, bella (beautiful)?” Valentina glanced at the building and then at him. “No, but I don’t have a choice, right? Let’s go.” He helped her out of the car and she took his arm as they walked in, quickly spotting the single table. This was Donatello’s place and they didn’t open for dinner until six, so they had place for the next two hours. “Rafael,” Donatello said, shaking the older man’s hand before looking at the young lady. “Valentina, you are absolutely stunning.” He took her hand and placed a kiss on the back of it.

Another huff with a roll of his eyes and he squatted down in front of me, setting the other bottle down and twisting the top from the Powerade. “Drink this, or I’ll make you drink it.” I stared at the bottle, unable to respond. For some reason I couldn’t shake it off. I’d been stupid to think that my fate was so far from Elio’s. Ella Delgado was a nobody who wouldn’t be missed if she were killed or sold as a sex slave. Fire burned my skin, and I drew in a hissing breath of surprise. Domenico’s hand rested on my neck, thumb moving across my jaw, tilting my head back.

Dante said on behalf of the rest. "Well, see you all at the party" Antonio said as he closed the meeting. Silvana went up to Dracaryx, "welcome to the alliance Mr Vitale, I am Silvana Ferrante, head of the Ferrante family" Silvana introduced herself. "It's a pleasure to meet you Silvana" Dracaryx replied. Dante was the next person to introduce himself to Dracaryx. "I am Dante Russo, pleased to meet you" he said. "You are lying" Dracaryx said.

Lorenzo, Mariano, Gianna, each one silent, watching as the screen bloomed to life. A chamber bathed in candlelight appeared and there he was, Donatello. His face, once polished cruelty, was now distorted. Berlin had marked him. Scars webbed across his left cheek and jaw. The flesh had been stitched poorly, cruelly. But his eyes… those hadn’t changed. Still glacial. Still dead. He smiled. “Hello, Talana.” Gianna recoiled. Lorenzo’s knuckles whitened on the desk. “I was going to send roses. But fire seemed more fitting.”

That was even more suspicious, not that I liked their stares or I wanted to be stared at but they’ve never not stared at me before unless something more interesting than watching a girl one hates has happened. As I approached my locker, I saw that some people were behind April as she charged toward someone. That was odd, I thought she wouldn’t be seen in school for a week if she was really under Tia’s disciplinary measures. He's not kidding. I nod. "Dinner's ready." *** 4am. The cabin door rattles with three loud bangs, followed by another three, and then another. It makes me wonder who the hell would come here this early in the morning and why they’re being so demanding. I rush downstairs to find Oliver behind the door and when he opens it, two large men stand glaring at him. “The doorbell is just as effective, you know,” he says sarcastically. “We’re looking for a lady named Bella,” one of them says ignoring his tone, while the other peaks into the house over Oliver’s shoulder. My heart skips as his eyes land on me.

"Fine. Donatello Vexille. You believe in fate?" "Then let's make a bet." "Bet on what?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "I'm going to go out, by myself, with no tracking devices. You have two hours to find me. If you can find me before midnight tonight, then I'll believe you. I'll believe we have some kind of fate." A delighted smile spread across Donatello's face, as if he'd already won. "Deal. But, Avril, if I win, I want a prize."
