Daddy's Bargain
I recognized one of the faces, Santoro’s crew.
Santoro wanted me dead ever since I refused to join his trafficking deal last year. He’d lost money, pride, and three of his men because of me. This was his way of collecting the debt, with bullets.
My pulse slowed, the way it always did when I had to fight. I shouted toward the stairs. “Marco! North flank! Kill the lights!”
“On it!” he yelled back, and I heard the cocking of his gun.
The chandeliers went dark, plunging the room into a blur of smoke and flickering moonlight. I grabbed Celeste’s wrist. “Don’t move until I say.”
